License plate recognition for gated communities

License plate recognition. Connected community access.

GoAccess connects license plate recognition with visitor management and gate access. Approved vehicles can enter using their plate, while authorized teams review arrival history, flagged plates, and which vehicles remain on property.

How it works

A plate read with community context.

  1. Read the plate

An LPR camera captures a vehicle’s plate at a configured entrance or exit. Lane layout, lighting, plate visibility, and camera positioning affect the installation.

  2. Check authorization

Match recognized plates with the community’s authorized records. Gate opening follows your configured access rules; a plate detection alone is not permission to enter.

  3. Review the visit

Connect vehicle activity with access history and visitor records. Review entry and exit activity and see which guest vehicles are still on property.

Every read, matched

A plate log that knows who each vehicle belongs to.

Each camera sends plate reads to GoAccess with the time, camera, and image. Reads are matched to registered resident and guest vehicles so staff see the household behind the plate.

  • Owner, address, make, model, and color for registered vehicles
  • Search by plate and filter by date
  • Vehicles registered by residents and managers on the household record

On property

Know which guest vehicles are still inside.

With cameras at the entrance and the exit, GoAccess keeps a live list of guest vehicles on property, clearing each one when it is read leaving.

  • Guest check-ins mark a vehicle as on property
  • An exit camera read clears it from the list
  • Resident and guest plates kept in sync with supported cameras

Built for daily operations

Beyond a list of plate detections.

  • Authorized vehicle entry

Use recognized license plates to open gates for permitted vehicles. Confirm vehicle enrollment and guest authorization procedures for each lane.

  • Entry and exit reporting

Review arrivals and departures together. On-property reporting depends on the entrances and exits included in the deployment and the available capture records.

  • Context for security

Every plate read is matched to its household and vehicle, so staff know who is arriving. Banned visitors are flagged at check-in before the gate opens.

  • Community data ownership

GoAccess describes community ownership of access, LPR, and audit data, with cloud backup and export capability. Confirm retention, export formats, and staff permissions in your implementation scope.

Questions from communities

Every detail considered.

What is the difference between LPR, ALPR, and ANPR?

These terms describe technology that reads vehicle registration plates. LPR means license plate recognition; ALPR adds automatic; ANPR means automatic number plate recognition. For a community, the key question is how plate reads connect to authorization and access records.

Can a recognized plate open the gate?

Yes. GoAccess can open a connected gate for an authorized plate, subject to the access rules and equipment configured for the community.

Does LPR replace RFID tags or fobs?

LPR can be one credential option within a broader access setup. GoAccess also supports compatible RFID, barcode, fob, and card credentials. Select methods based on your lanes, residents, and operating procedures.

What happens if a plate cannot be read?

Confirm a fallback procedure during installation planning, such as gatehouse verification or another supported credential. Weather, plate obstruction, lighting, and vehicle position can affect a read.

How is LPR different from a standalone plate camera?

A camera can capture a plate without deciding whether the vehicle is authorized. GoAccess connects available plate records with visitor workflows, configured gate permissions, and community reporting.
